Jaw-Fracturing Attack On In-Laws At Family Barbecue Convicts PA Man: DA

A Lebanon man was convicted of violently attacking multiple female in-laws, fracturing one woman’s jaw and injuring another at a family barbecue, Lebanon County prosecutors announced on Monday, March 3.

Alberto Cruz was found guilty of felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and summary disorderly conduct by a jury on Friday, Feb. 28, according to the district attorney’s office.

Cruz, who was estranged from his wife and barred from contacting her due to a previous assault, showed up uninvited at a family gathering, authorities said. When told to leave, he punched his sister-in-law in the face, fracturing her jaw, and shoved his mother-in-law to the ground, according to the DA.

Lebanon City Police arrived and found Cruz reeking of alcohol. He allegedly fought officers during the arrest, court records show.

Cruz, who has prior convictions in Dauphin County for aggravated assault, corruption of minors in 2010, and unsworn falsification to authorities in 2013, also has a pending aggravated assault on an officer case and simple assault charges involving his wife, prosecutors said.

“The fact that some men still find it acceptable to hit women defies explanation,” Senior Deputy DA Amy Muller stated. “Men who abuse women are vile predators who seek to oppress women through physical violence – which is never acceptable.”

Cruz faces state incarceration at his May 7 sentencing.
